The Marina Mariners entered their tilt with the Alisal Trojans with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Marina had just enough and edged the Trojans out 58-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Leading Marina to victory were Jordan Bonnard Webb and Julius Robinson. Bonnard Webb dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds, while Robinson scored 29 points. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Robinson has scored at least a third of Marina's points. Another player making a difference was Khalik Kennedy, who scored nine points.
Alisal lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Adrian Cardenas, who scored six points along with 13 assists and eight rebounds. Cardenas is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now racked up eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kike Jacinto, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Marina is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. As for Alisal, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-5.
Marina will take on the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Stevenson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Thursday. As for Alisal, they will head out on the road to square off against the Wildcatz at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
