The Mays Raiders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jackson Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mays comes in on three and Jackson on four.
Two weeks ago, Mays got the win against Central by a conclusive 68-48.
Mays' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chloe Evans, who scored 23 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Evans has scored at least 25% of Mays' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Riley , who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Jackson at home against Villa Rica on Tuesday as the team secured a 79-16 win. With Jackson ahead 55-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Jackson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taliah Cornish led the charge by scoring 14 points. The matchup was Cornish's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kennedie Cooper, who scored 9 points along with 5 assists and 3 steals.
Their wins bumped Mays to 3-1 and Central to 2-4.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Mays haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 1.3 turnovers per game. It's a different story for Jackson, though, as they've been averaging 10.2 per game. Given Mays' sizeable advantage in that area, Jackson will need to find a way to close that gap. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Mays was taken down by Jackson 70-34 in their previous meeting back in January. Can Mays avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
