New Fairfield hasn't had much luck against Brookfield recently, but that could start to change on Sunday. The Rebels will head out to face off against the Bobcats at 1:00 p.m. New Fairfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
New Fairfield was handed a seven-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Stratford 6-5. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Rebels as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Briana Puff was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Puff was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lindsey Briggs, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Sophia Callahan also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Brookfield had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They blew past the Wildcats 9-1. Considering the Bobcats have won 12 matches by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Like New Fairfield, Brookfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Lila Conrad. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Conrad has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Chloe Fitzgerald was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Mary Auricchio was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
Brookfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive games.
Brookfield's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for New Fairfield, their record now sits at 6-9.
New Fairfield suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Brookfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Rebels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
