MONROE, N.C. -
Monroe (N.C.) snapped the nine-game winning streak of
East Lincoln (Denver, N.C.), with a 34-13 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Zephaniah Wall touchdown pass to
Jaylan Barbour in the second quarter, the Redhawks led 8-0 at the half.
Monroe expanded its lead to 28 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS scored four times in the third, including once on a Wall touchdown pass to
Jocquez Frazier.
With the win the Redhawks extended their winning streak to nine games. Monroe defeated West Stokes 34-15 last week.
Monroe went into the matchup giving up only 12.5 points per game. The 13 points that the Mustangs ended with were above their average of 9.7 coming into the game. East Lincoln came in allowing just 13.3 points per game this season. EL had a hard time against Monroe's offense, which entered the game scoring 32.2 points per game.
The loss comes after East Lincoln defeated Maiden 42-14 last week.
