Baseball Recap: Monday's Loss Ends Granby Memorial's Winning Streak

Granby Memorial dropped their record down to 6-6 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Somers Spartans. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Somers, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games.

For Somers' part, they let Will Accorsi and Andrew Czerwinski run wild. Accorsi got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Czerwinski got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and four runs. Those three RBI gave Accorsi a new career-high. Jack Olearcek was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, Granby Memorial will be playing in front of their home fans against Newington at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Somers, they are taking a road trip to challenge Manchester at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Hawks will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight.
