The Garden Grove Argonauts will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Segerstrom Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. Garden Grove is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
While it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Garden Grove was not quite Marina's equal in the second half on Friday. Garden Grove took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marina.
Meanwhile, Segerstrom got themselves on the board against Katella on Thursday, but Katella never followed suit. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 64-0 victory over the Knights. The result was nothing new for Segerstrom, who have now won three games by 20 points or more so far this season.
Segerstrom's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Diaz, who rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and also caught a touchdown. Jesse Lopez was another key contributor, throwing for 93 yards and four touchdowns.
Segerstrom's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Gilbert Peralta and his two sacks.
Garden Grove's loss was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-2 Santa Ana and 9-4 Norte Vista (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.7% over those games). As for Segerstrom, their win on Thursday bumped their record up to 5-3.
Garden Grove was able to grind out a solid victory over Segerstrom in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, winning 31-23. Will Garden Grove repeat their success, or does Segerstrom have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
