III Section VI recap October 8, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Washington, who defeated 30th ranked Tempe, 70-48. James Rasmussen threw for 297 yards and 4 touchdowns and ran for 86 yards in the win.
Adding to the longest winning streak in III Section VI this week, the Rams beat the Buffaloes 70-48. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Jon Becktold's team's dynamic duo of Rasmussen and Ryan Masciola proved tough for Tempe to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Armando Durazo helped Washington's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 115 yards.
Jordan Leary was a beast in the backfield as Phoenix Christian topped Moon Valley.
He went 14-30 with 1 interception.
Brian Walker's team's Emanuel Gant and Massiah Smith have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Gant has thrown for 2,017 yards this season, while Smith has 33 catches for 723 yards. The Cougars' Scottie Jordan leads the league in rushing yards with 1,414.
The Rams' Antwain Marlowe needs only 37 yards against Shadow Mountain next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 144 carries Marlowe has put up 963 yards this year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Alhambra takes on Phoenix Christian. The Lions are in third place, while Brandon Harris' team is in fifth place.
Thunderbird took down the Matadors 50-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kaleb Hofer ran for 107 yards and caught 3 passes for 60 yards during the win.
