The South Newton Rebels are on the road again on Wednesday and play against the North Vermillion Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on December 20th. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
On Saturday, South Newton had to suffer through a rough 68-34 loss at the hands of Frontier. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South Newton in their matchups with Frontier: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the loss, South Newton had strong showings from Colton Marks, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds, and Chayse Stillabower, who scored six points along with five rebounds. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, North Vermillion's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 63-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Shakamak. While losing is never fun, North Vermillion can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while Shakamak is ranked 111th).
South Newton's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for North Vermillion, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
South Newton came up short against North Vermillion when the teams last played back in January, falling 48-35. Can South Newton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
