Kanab extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 2-15. They lost 13-6 to the Wayne Badgers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Badgers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-1 on March 7th.
JayCee Lathim was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Lathim was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Tessa Veater made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs.
As for Wayne, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Considering they have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Kanab, Wayne also got a great game from a two-way player: Alania Grundy. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Grundy has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jenna Erickson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brenda Harris, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Kanab has already played their next matchup (against Judge Memorial Catholic), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Wayne, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Water Canyon at 3:30 p.m. on April 7.
