Lowry is on an 11-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Churchill County is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Buckaroos will welcome the Greenwave at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Lowry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Lowry and Elko, and Lowry kept the tradition alive. The Buckaroos came out on top against the Indians by a score of 9-4 on Wednesday. The Buckaroos haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Maite Bengochea made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adalyn Entwistle, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Dana Micone, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Churchill County never let their opponents score on Saturday. They blew past Elko 10-0. Considering the Greenwave have won 11 contests by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Lowry, Churchill County also got a great game from a two-way player: Janessa Bettencourt. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Bettencourt was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Dana Buckmaster was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Kalaya Downs was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Churchill County's win bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Lowry, their victory bumped their record up to 19-6.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Lowry has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Churchill County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lowry couldn't quite get it done against Churchill County when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Will the Buckaroos have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
