The Michigan Lutheran Seminary Cardinals are taking a road trip to take on the St. Charles Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Michigan Lutheran Seminary is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
St. Charles will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Michigan Lutheran Seminary extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Cardinals put the hurt on Valley Lutheran with a sharp 17-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Kerin Gardner made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 15 matches.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sydney Darling, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 12 games. The team also got some help courtesy of London Retberg, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Michigan Lutheran Seminary always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, St. Charles suffered their closest loss since May 3, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Coleman by a score of 15-13. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Comets recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.
Abrielle Dinninger was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Alison Dinninger also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Michigan Lutheran Seminary pushed their record up to 18-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for St. Charles, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
St. Charles' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Michigan Lutheran Seminary has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for St. Charles, though, as they've been averaging only 2.6 strikeouts. Will Michigan Lutheran Seminary keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
