The Falls City Tigers will face off against the Fairbury Jeffs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
On Tuesday, Falls City came up short against Auburn and fell 7-2. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jayton Wilkerson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fairbury). Everything went their way against Centennial on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-4 win. With that victory, the Jeffs brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
CJ Goeking made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Fairbury's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 3-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Goeking was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other pitching news, Dom Joe looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Fairbury is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-5 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Jamison Runge was excellent, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jacob Nippert, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.
Fairbury always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Fairbury's win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Falls City, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
Falls City might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from Fairbury in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
