Basketball Game Preview: West Campus Warriors vs. Valley Vikings

West Campus has gone 10-0 against Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The West Campus Warriors will head out to challenge the Valley Vikings at 7:00 p.m. West Campus is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.6 points per game this season.

Last Friday, West Campus was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 59-58 to Fairfield. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 602nd, while the Falcons are ranked 235th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Zach Villanueva, who went 7 of 16 en route to 19 points and six assists. His evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Edmund Michalski was another key player, putting up 14 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, West Campus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Valley). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 71-69 win over Armijo on Friday.

Valley's victory ended a 14-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-14. As for West Campus, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.

Everything came up roses for West Campus against Valley in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 59-16 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Campus since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
