Ulysses has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against The Liberal Redskins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ulysses will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Liberal is ranked 38th).
Last Friday, Ulysses was beaten by Great Bend 56-16.
Although Ulysses took the loss, they still got scores from Aden Alvarado and Julian Meraz.
Meanwhile, Liberal unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 48-41 to Hays. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Despite the defeat, Liberal got a solid performance out of J. Brooks kappelmann, who rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Brooks kappelmann was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Another player making a difference was Zayden Martinez, who picked up 116 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Ulysses' loss was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.57 points per game. Having lost for the first time this season, Liberal fell to 6-1.
Ulysses suffered a grim 42-19 defeat to Liberal in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Can Ulysses avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
