Softball Game Preview: Springville Red Devils vs. American Fork Cavemen

Springville is a perfect 8-0 against American Fork since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Springville Red Devils will face off against the American Fork Cavemen at 3:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

While Red Devils fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Tuesday's season opener. They were the clear victor by a 12-5 margin over Timpanogos on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Timberwolves: they've now won eight in a row.

Brooklynn Richardson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Morgan Fairbourne was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Mary Finlayson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when American Fork and Corner Canyon meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. American Fork blew past Corner Canyon 16-6. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cavemen as it put an end to their six-game losing streak dating back to last season.

The team relied heavily on Lacie Fleming, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelynn Swenson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

American Fork was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corner Canyon only posted a batting average of .278.

Everything went Springville's way against American Fork in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Springville made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Springville since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
