1A District 3 recap November 19, 2013
St. Mary added to the longest winning streak in 1A District 3 this week by beating Grambling, 36-8. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Tigers.
Block took down South Cameron 42-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Raymond Plummer ran for 104 yards and caught 1 pass for 85 yards during the win.
The Bears' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Trevor Vault threw for 85 and 1 touchdown and Plummer had 85 yards receiving. On the ground Cameron Everett chipped in 127 yards. Johnny Hatten helped Block's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 13 yards.
Block's dynamic duo of Vault and Plummer proved tough for the Tarpons to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hatten helped Block's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 13 yards.
Vault was a key player and the best on defense this week as Benny Vault's team defeated South Cameron. The 5-foot-9 senior forced 1 fumble, recorded 1 fumble and racked up 1 sack.
Cole Hendrix provided a threat through the air and on the ground as LaSalle topped Grand Lake. He completed 7 passes for 111 yards and also ran for 23 yards. Hendrix's favorite target this week was Kenneth Smith, who caught 2 passes for 75 yards.
6-foot-4 quarterback Hendrix of the Tigers is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,769. He has also thrown 20 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Bijon Washington. The Montgomery star has 26 catches for 595 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place LaSalle takes on second place Montgomery. Last week, LaSalle bested the Hornets, while Montgomery topped North Central.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Tigers' Washington goes up against the Tigers' Morgan Barbo.
Montgomery led the league in scoring this week by notching 56 points on the Hurricanes.
