Baseball Recap: Athens Drive Snags Sixth Victory in Last Eight Games

Athens Drive won the last time they faced Sanderson and things went their way on Friday too. Athens Drive was the clear victor by a 12-0 margin over Sanderson. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Athens Drive got a big performance out of Austin Mantz, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Mantz has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Bartley, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Athens Drive always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sanderson only posted an OBP of .167.

Athens Drive has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. Sanderson's loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Athens Drive will welcome Riverside-Durham at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Riverside-Durham will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Athens Drive surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sanderson, they will be playing at home against Broughton at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
