Firth is 2-8 against Malad since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Dragons at 4:00 p.m. Firth is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Firth blew North Fremont out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday North Fremont got their revenge. The Cougars fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cougars have suffered since March 20, 2025.
Firth saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brycen Andersen, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Malad, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over Soda Springs on Wednesday. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Dawson Peterson, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ethan Horsley, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Malad always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Soda Springs only posted an OBP of .364.
Malad pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Firth, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-5.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Firth has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Malad struggles in that department as they've averaged .458. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Firth might still be hurting after the 12-1 defeat they got from Malad in their previous meeting on Thursday. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
