The Sequoia Ravens will square off against the Castilleja Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sequoia has five straight wins, Castilleja has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Sequoia gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Gunn 11-3.
The team relied heavily on Mehta Nisha, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Ocken Maren was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Sequoia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Castilleja lost 17-4 to Presentation on Monday.
Katherine Cheng was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Taryn Johnson also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Sequoia pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Castilleja, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Castilleja's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sequoia hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It's a different story for Castilleja, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Sequoia's hitters?
Sequoia took their victory against Castilleja in their previous meeting back in March of 2017 by a conclusive 13-0 score. Do the Ravens have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gators turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
