Basketball Recap: Piner's Loss Ends 11-Game Winning Streak at Home

After a string of four wins, Piner's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 68-60 to the Christopher Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Prospectors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while the Cougars are ranked 76th).

Several Prospectors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Apollo Pereira, who posted 23 points and six rebounds. The game was Pereira's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brendan Walker, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards.

Piner's loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-5. As for Christopher, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Piner didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 75-47 defeat against Maria Carrillo on the 28th. As for Christopher, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 45-31 win against Cardinal Newman on the 28th.
