While the University Cougars couldn't quite beat the Cypress Creek Bears on Thursday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 36-point defeat they were dealt last Wednesday. University fell just short of Cypress Creek by a score of 42-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss University has suffered yet this season.
Despite the loss, University still got an impressive performance from Jacqueline Leap, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 20 rebounds. Leap also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Laura Martinez, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
University has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Cypress Creek, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
University and Winter Park will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Winter Park has three straight wins, University has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field. As for Cypress Creek, they will head out on the road to face off against Freedom at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
