Pleasant Ridge and Onaga are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Rams will be playing in front of their home fans against the Buffaloes at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pleasant Ridge has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight losses, while Onaga will come in with three straight victories.
Pleasant Ridge lost 16-4 to Jackson Heights on Monday.
Aubrey Gillaspie and Sydnee Kirkwood stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gillaspie scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Kirkwood scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Onaga made easy work of Valley Heights on Monday and carried off a 17-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Buffaloes, who have now won seven matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Willow Hochstedler made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Hochstedler was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison DeChant, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and five RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Annie Force was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Onaga always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Heights only posted an OBP of .333.
Onaga pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Pleasant Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Pleasant Ridge might still be hurting after the 20-5 loss they got from Onaga when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
