5A Region 3 recap September 17, 2013
Tanner Sansom of Alta ran for the longest rushing play in 5A Region 3 this season against Allentown last week. Sansom ran for 80 yards on the play and finished with 180 on the day as his team beat the Redbirds.
Austin Kafentzis and Tayler Johnson provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Bergen Catholic. The longest such play in the league this season, the connection resulted in 85 yards.
Jordan's dynamic duo of Kafentzis and Mason Kruger proved tough for the Crusaders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kafentzis threw for 446 yards and 3 touchdowns and Kruger had 217 yards receiving. Johnson helped Jordan's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 104 yards.
The Beetdiggers' dynamic duo of Kafentzis and Kruger proved to be unstoppable against Bergen Catholic, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Sansom was the most successful running back in the league this week. Teammate Cavin Trenton added to the ground attack by rushing for 20 yards.
He went 19-41 with 0 interceptions.
Kruger was the best receiver in 5A Region 3 this week as Jordan fell to Nunzio Campanile's team.
Logan Harrison was a key player and the best on defense this week as Alta topped Allentown. The 6-foot-2 senior grabbed 2.0 sacks.
Kruger had a great week catching the football as Eric Kjar's team lost to the Crusaders.
Kafentzis put up the best numbers in passing as the Beetdiggers fell to Bergen Catholic.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Robert Stephens' team's Chipper Lucero and Mack Richards have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Lucero has thrown for 1,076 yards this season, while Richards has 27 catches for 533 yards. Jordan's Kafentzis leads the league in rushing yards with 517.
Brighton added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Cottonwood, 31-3. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Bengals.
