Chandler and Mountain View are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. Chandler will welcome Mountain View at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Chandler is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
While Chandler's win against Kofa wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Chandler came out on top in a nail-biter against Kofa on Thursday, sneaking past 2-1. The victory continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Kings: they've now won five in a row.
Luke Rylee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Chandler's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Bass, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mountain View entered their tilt with Skyline on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Coyotes. That's two games straight that the Toros have won by exactly six runs.
Kooper Klein made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Mountain View is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-7 otherwise. Klein was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Austin Burr tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.
Back at the plate, Beckham Barney was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run. He is becoming a predictor of Mountain View's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Chasyn Cook, who scored two runs and stole two bases.
Mountain View hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in eight consecutive games.
Chandler pushed their record up to 7-7-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mountain View, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Chandler hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Chandler took their win against Mountain View in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. Will Chandler repeat their success, or does Mountain View has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
