The Ellicott Thunderhawks waltzed into their match Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They had just enough and edged Woodland Park out 30-28. That's another feather in the cap for Ellicott, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Despite the defeat, Woodland Park had strong showings from Brenna Larsen, who scored 12 points along with three steals, and Stella Schroeder, who scored 11 points along with eight steals. Schroeder is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Ellicott's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Woodland Park, their defeat was their third straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ellicott will take on Strasburg at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Strasburg presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Ellicott in Colorado (Strasburg is ranked 94th, while Ellicott is ranked 255th). As for Woodland Park, they will be playing at home against Buena Vista at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Buena Vista's defense has only allowed 29.2 points per game this season, so Woodland Park's offense will have their work cut out for Woodland Park.
