The Perry Pumas will head out to take on the Sunnyslope Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Perry has four straight victories, Sunnyslope has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Perry had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Notre Dame Prep on Saturday. Perry was the clear victors by a 21-4 margin over Notre Dame Prep. The Pumas' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Dillon Mendoza looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
At the plate, Jackson Juaire was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Ryan Davie also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
Perry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .682. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Sunnyslope came up short against Higley on Saturday and fell 10-5.
Damien Rodriguez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Matthew Workman was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Perry's record is now 4-0. As for Sunnyslope, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Perry's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. Perry has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Sunnyslope, though, as they've been averaging only 0.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Perry continue to outrun the ball?
Perry came out on top in a nail-biter against Sunnyslope in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 9-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for Perry since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
