Basketball Recap: Starmount Falls Despite Big Games from Corey Armstrong and Ryley Rodriguez

Starmount was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They took a 66-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Wilkes Cardinals. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rams of the 59-51 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Starmount's loss came despite strong showings from Ryley Rodriguez and Corey Armstrong. Rodriguez went 8 for 17 en route to 22 points and six rebounds, while Armstrong dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 boards. Those 15 rebounds gave Armstrong a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Deuce Best, who posted 11 points and eight boards.

Starmount's defeat dropped their record down to 1-16. As for East Wilkes, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Starmount will challenge Forbush at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Starmount is facing Forbush at the right time seeing as Forbush is stuck on a 16-game losing streak. As for East Wilkes, they and Alleghany will face off at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played.
