Campbell County hasn't had much luck against Halls recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Campbell County Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Halls Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Campbell County had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Oneida on Monday. Campbell County put the hurt on Oneida with a sharp 13-4 victory. The match marked the Cougars' most dominant win of the season so far.
Keira Bierdemann was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Destiny Rutherford was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Lynley Nelson also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Campbell County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Halls had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 13-1 margin over the Bulldogs. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won three contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Atiana Stamper looked comfortable as she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, Halls let Makaylie Hutchison and Brielle Johnson run wild. Hutchison got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Johnson scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Harper Bales was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.
Halls' record now sits at 5-1-1. As for Campbell County, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Campbell County suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Halls in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Campbell County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
