Baseball Recap: Jefferson Area's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

Jefferson Area dropped their record down to 11-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They came up short against the St. John Fighting Herald, falling 14-1. The Falcons were not able to make up for their loss to the Fighting Herald from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for St. John, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

For St. John's part, Gus Petros made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Petros has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, St. John let Will Anderson and Chase Newsome run wild. Anderson went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Newsome got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Anderson has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Severino, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Jefferson Area will be taking part in a tournament against Edgewood at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. John does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
