Eastwood has gone 8-1 against Oak Harbor recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Eagles will challenge the Rockets at 4:45 p.m. Eastwood's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Oak Harbor's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Friday, Eastwood needed a bit of extra time to put away Lake. They came out on top against the Flyers by a score of 5-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Drew Kachmarik was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched eight innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Kadyn Donnell was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Colton Woodward was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run.
Eastwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oak Harbor). Everything went their way against Rossford on Friday as they made off with an 18-0 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Rockets needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Like Eastwood, Oak Harbor also got a great game from a two-way player: Brennan Butzin. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Butzin a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Butzin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cooper Schultz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Oak Harbor has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Eastwood, their record now sits at 12-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Eastwood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Oak Harbor struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Eastwood came out on top in a nail-biter against Oak Harbor in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 9-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
