Cherokee Trail is 2-7 against Grandview since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cherokee Trail Cougars will look to defend their home field against the Grandview Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Cherokee Trail comes in on a streak of failing to score more than nine points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Last Thursday, Cherokee Trail had to suffer through a rough 56-7 loss at the hands of Arapahoe. Cherokee Trail was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.
Meanwhile, Grandview humbled Smoky Hill with a 41-8 victory. The result was nothing new for Grandview, who have now won five matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
Liam Szarka was on fire: he threw for 211 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Dominic Henning was another key contributor, picking up 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Cherokee Trail's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Arapahoe, Cherry Creek, and Castle View. Grandview is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Cherokee Trail was taken down by Grandview 28-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Cherokee Trail, Simon Kibbee (who picked up 152 receiving yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
