Grant County hasn't had much luck against Scott County recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Braves will be playing at home against the Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. Grant County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Grant County's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Saturday's struggle, when Lloyd Memorial hitters got past them. The Braves came up short against the Juggernauts on Saturday, falling 10-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Braves have suffered since March 16, 2024.
Grant County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braiden Beach, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Scott County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Boyle County 4-3 on Wednesday.
Jack Willhite looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Wands, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Rose, who scored a run and stole a base.
Scott County pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Grant County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Both Grant County and Scott County just can't seem to miss. The Braves have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Scott County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
