The Calhoun Cougars will square off against the Collegiate Dutchmen at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Calhoun is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
If Calhoun beats Collegiate with 15 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Everything went the Cougars' way against United Nations International on Tuesday as they made off with a 15-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Josh Mandel made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Quentin Ruffin was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Jordan Osorio was another key player, earning three runs and two stolen bases.
Calhoun always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .552 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Collegiate's offense. They lost 6-0 to Trinity on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Dutchmen's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Collegiate saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ale' Propper-Bowring, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Calhoun pushed their record up to 12-3-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Collegiate, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-4 record.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Calhoun has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .496. However, it's not like Collegiate struggles in that department as they've averaged .477. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
