3A Region I District 4 recap Nov. 7, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Greenwood, who took down 245th ranked Big Spring, 34-20. Kam Williams threw for 68 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 250 yards in the win.
Wylie extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region I District 4 this week by beating Snyder, 34-6. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Bulldogs.
The Steers' dynamic duo of Tobyn Tannehill and Devin Roberson proved tough for the Rangers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Tannehill threw for 246 yards and one touchdown and Roberson had 159 yards receiving. Tate Kennedy helped Big Spring's passing attack out by catching five balls for 59 yards.
Zach Redwine made the biggest impact on defense this week as Greenwood topped Big Spring. The 5-foot-11 sophomore racked up two sacks.
6-foot-3 quarterback Williams of Shad Hanna's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1840. He has also thrown 19 touchdowns. On the ground, Phillip Ritchey's team's Tannehill has rushed for 834 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Roberson. The Big Spring star has 46 catches for 731 yards.
Entering into this week's contest against the Tigers, Williams is short just 160 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Wylie takes on Sweetwater. Hugh Sandifer's team is currently in first, while the Mustangs are in fifth.
Monahans and Sweetwater played the most hotly contested game in 3A Region I District 4 this week, with Monahans eventually emerging with a 39-35 victory.
