You might not recognize the power rankings this week after a busy last week rearranged the teams a whole lot. Among the games was a one-point thriller between Flowers and Douglass.
Welcome
North Point managed to bank 179 more yards than its opponent Calvert last week, and going the extra distance paid off. The final score between North Point and Calvert was a 43 - 0 blowout in North Point's favor. Junior Corey Johnson deserves a lot of the credit as he ran for 124 yards and also punched in two touchdowns. Thanks to its success, North Point cracked into the power rankings and now occupies the 22nd spot.
Can't Touch This
Flint Hill's 50 - 6 win over Potomac School last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Jordan Houston. Houston rushed for 265 yards and three touchdowns. That performance made Houston one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
No Stoppin 'Em
The Martinsburg offense has been a force to be reckoned with this season, and last week was no different. It picked up a decisive 'W' against Musselman, finishing up at 70 - 0. At 70 points, that marked Martinsburg's largest margin of victory so far this year. The combined 70-point effort made this the highest-scoring game in the power rankings for the week.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Gonzaga (4th in the power rankings) and St. John's (1st). Both teams are coming in hot off of wins in their previous games. Of course, St. John's and Gonzaga can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Saturday which team falters and which extends its success.
