Imperial Valley recap October 22, 2013
Palo Verde Valley scaled the state rankings by moving to 769 from 805 this week, the biggest jump in Imperial Valley. The Yellowjackets were able to move up by topping Southwest 28-25.
Imperial extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Brawley, 29-10. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Royce Freeman was a force in the backfield as Imperial defeated the Wildcats.
Freeman was a passing and rushing force as Kerry Legarra's team bested Brawley.
Damian Ramirez was the best receiver in the league this week as Palo Verde Valley defeated the Eagles. Ramirez racked up 6 receptions for 119 yards. Treshaun Edmond helped Palo Verde Valley's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 47 yards.
Leading Imperial Valley in both passing and receiving yards, George Dagnino's team's Logan Whiting and Ramirez have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Whiting has thrown for 763 yards this season, while Ramirez has 38 catches for 976 yards. Freeman from the Tigers leads the league in rushing with 1,861 yards.
Ramirez of the the Yellowjackets' is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 24 receiving yards in this week's game against Jon Self's team to get there. So far this year, he has acheived 38 catches for 976 yards.
As it stands, the Wildcats are in second, while Palo Verde Valley is in third.
The Yellowjackets and Southwest played the most contested game in the league this week, with the Yellowjackets eventually emerging with a 28-25 victory. Jordan Velarde threw for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 30 yards during the win.
