The Round Valley Elks will be taking part in a tournament against the San Tan Charter Roadrunners at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Round Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Round Valley's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Hopi 15-0. The Elks haven't had any issues with the Bruins recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Kobe Kelepolo and Jeffery Cochran did most of the damage at the plate: Kelepolo scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Cochran went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Those two runs gave Kelepolo a new career-high. Cash Hamblin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, San Tan Charter came tearing into Thursday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Vikings.
Tyrus Colomer looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Tommy Crupi was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Braden Peasel, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Round Valley's record now sits at 11-4. As for San Tan Charter, their record is now 13-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Round Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like San Tan Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Round Valley couldn't quite finish off San Tan Charter in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Elks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
