North Edgecombe and Rocky Mount Prep are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but not for long. The North Edgecombe Warriors will be home for the holidays to greet the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
North Edgecombe scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Warren County 80-47 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory North Edgecombe has managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Edgecombe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ke'Ziyah Pittman, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Pittman is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of ChyAsia Garrett, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Rocky Mount Prep, as they earned their first road win of the season. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Wilson Prep 47-44. The victory was just what Rocky Mount Prep needed coming off of a 56-15 defeat in their prior match.
It was another big night for Niylee Bullock, who scored 17 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Rocky Mount Prep's points. Another player making a difference was Jada Silver, who scored eight points.
The win was the third in a row for North Edgecombe, bringing their record for this year to 3-1. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 26 points. As for Rocky Mount Prep, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: North Edgecombe hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 61.2 points per game. It's a different story for Rocky Mount Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 28 points per game. The only thing between North Edgecombe and another offensive beatdown is Rocky Mount Prep. Will they be able to keep them contained?
North Edgecombe was able to grind out a solid win over Rocky Mount Prep in their previous matchup back in January, winning 51-39. Does North Edgecombe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rocky Mount Prep turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
