Two dominant signal callers in Jaxon Hunt and Xander Thayer are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. After each having a week off, the Mountain Ridge Sentinels and the Riverton Silverwolves will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Ridge is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
Mountain Ridge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Westlake, who was ranked 20th at the time (Mountain Ridge was ranked fifth). The Sentinels came out on top against the Thunder by a score of 35-28 last Friday. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but the Sentinels were the better team in the second half.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Hunt and BOSTEN FOUNTAINE. Hunt had a great game and threw for 386 yards and three TDs. Meanwhile, FOUNTAINE was balling out in the loss, throwing for 349 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 69 yards and one score.
Mountain Ridge's defense made their presence known, laying out FOUNTAINE three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Cutler Whitaker, Jaxon Brown, and Cole Uluave, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Riverton). They breezed past Copper Hills to the tune of 47-14 last Friday. The Silverwolves haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Mountain Ridge better focus on containing Rocky Downs and Austin Morris as the pair were huge in Riverton's win. Downs gained 139 total yards and two touchdowns, while Morris threw for 134 yards and three TDs on only ten passes.
Mountain Ridge's record is now 8-2. As for Riverton, their record now sits at 4-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Mountain Ridge has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 333.8 passing yards per game. It's a different story for Riverton, though, as they've been averaging only 154.8 passing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant passing game?
Everything went Mountain Ridge's way against Riverton in their previous matchup back in September, as Mountain Ridge made off with a 41-19 win. In that matchup, the Sentinels amassed a halftime lead of 24-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
