Baseball Recap: Leipsic Has No Trouble Against Continental

Leipsic got themselves on the board against Continental on Tuesday, but Continental never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Pirates. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Aaron Hazelton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Leipsic is undefeated when Hazelton posts two or more runs, but 7-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Tyler Lammers was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Avery Paris, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Leipsic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Continental only posted an OBP of .067.

Leipsic has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Continental, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12-1.

Leipsic and Continental could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Vikings (ranked 448th) will meet Kalida (ranked 128th) at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Continental will face off against Columbus Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (663 vs. 320).
