Thomas Jefferson got a massive performance out of Shepard Schneider, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Schneider has become a key player for the Spartans: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-7 otherwise. Alexander Berry was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
Thomas Jefferson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Cheyenne Mountain faced Air Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Red-Tailed Hawks had just enough and edged out the Kadets 6-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Charlie Scofield was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nate Glad, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jansen Roberts, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Cheyenne Mountain's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1-1. As for Thomas Jefferson, their win bumped their record up to 3-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Thomas Jefferson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cheyenne Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
