The Providence Pioneers and the Jeffersonville Red Devils will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 13th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Providence is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
Last Saturday, Providence faced Cathedral in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Providence was beaten by Cathedral 74-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Providence has suffered yet this season.
Meanwhile, Jeffersonville opened the new year with a less-than-successful 60-48 defeat to Brownstown Central.
Despite their defeat, Jeffersonville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Michael Cooper, who scored 13 points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Shawn Boyd, who scored six points.
Jeffersonville struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Providence's loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-2. As for Jeffersonville, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Providence beat Jeffersonville 58-49 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Providence since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
