The Trego Golden Eagles were the 50-18 winner over the Russell Broncos when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Trego was dealt a 56-24 defeat at the hands of Russell on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Trego has scored all season.
Avery Ziegler and Reece Smith certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Ziegler scored nine points along with five rebounds, while Smith scored six points along with four steals.
Trego has not been sharp recently as the team has lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. As for Russell, they pushed their record up to 5-12 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trego will take on Norton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Norton is facing Trego at the right time seeing as Trego is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Russell, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Smith Center on Thursday. Russell will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Smith Center is ranked 45th).
