The Mountain Valley Wolves will head out to challenge the Branson/Kim Bearcats at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Branson/Kim took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Mountain Valley, who comes in off a win.
Mountain Valley took a 28-point defeat the last time they faced off against Primero, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolves slipped by the Bulldogs 31-30 on Saturday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Wolves' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.
Mountain Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tye Salaz, who threw for 116 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 64 yards on only eight carries. Salaz didn't just play on offense: he also made eight total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass. Another player making a difference was Kyngston Taylor, who picked up 47 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Branson/Kim challenged Sierra Grande on Saturday. The Bearcats took a blow against the Panthers, falling 56-18. The Bearcats' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Although Branson/Kim took the loss, they still got scores from Blake Olguin, Will Doherty, and Mason Riddle.
While Branson/Kim came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Sierra Grande: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 50%. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for the Bearcats; they were averaging 60.7%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 60.7%.
Branson/Kim's defensive line didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Olguin got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Branson/Kim, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-2.
Mountain Valley took a serious blow against Branson/Kim when the teams last played back in October of 2023, falling 68-19. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
