Volleyball Recap: Porter's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

After a string of four wins, Porter's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Mercedes Tigers by a score of 3-2. The Cowboys were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Porter actually scored more points across those five sets (105-103), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 22-25, 14-25, 27-25, 15-7.

Kimberly Garica paced Porter's offense, picking up ten kills. Garica got some help from Suri Rojas and her 13 assists. Miley Cortez controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Porter's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Mercedes, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Porter will face off against rival Donna North at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Mercedes is set to square off against their familiar foe Harlingen South at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
