Pleasant Grove has gone a perfect 4-0 against Hunter recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. Mary Severe stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Mia Hernandez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Hunter came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Cougars 24-8. Considering the Wolverines have won 13 matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
LEILA AIONO made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, ALEXA OLSEN was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three doubles. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was IZABELLA MAILO, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Hunter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Pleasant Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 6-19. As for Hunter, their win bumped their record up to 16-9.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pleasant Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. However, it's not like Hunter struggles in that department as they've averaged .452. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
