Skyline hasn't had much luck against Red Mountain recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Skyline is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Mountain View, falling 16-0.
Meanwhile, Red Mountain entered their tilt with Dobson on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. With that victory, the Mountain Lions brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Kendall Cochran made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Nina Montenegro was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Payton Westra was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.
Red Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Red Mountain pushed their record up to 5-2-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Skyline, their loss dropped their record down to 2-13.
Skyline suffered a grim 20-0 defeat to Red Mountain in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Skyline avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
