The Christian Patriots will venture away from home to take on the Cathedral Catholic Dons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Christian 3, Cathedral Catholic 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Christian had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Academy of Our Lady of Peace on Thursday. The Patriots put the hurt on the Pilots with a sharp 10-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Pilots: they've now won three in a row.
Lucy Sherburne was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammy Baca, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Academy of Our Lady of Peace only posted a batting average of .045.
Cathedral Catholic came out on top against Academy of Our Lady of Peace on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Dons never let the Pilots get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Dons as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Sophia Clark tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Anna Janis was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Ellie Davis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
Christian's record now sits at 20-5-1. As for Cathedral Catholic, their record is now 14-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Christian hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Cathedral Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Christian's way against Cathedral Catholic when the teams last played back in April, as Christian made off with a 7-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
