Baseball Recap: Florence Beats Sierra for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Florence put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Sierra Stallions with a sharp 17-7 victory. While the Huskies didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-19-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Finn Phillips was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Phillips was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Phillips is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Moses Behnam was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynnen Lambert, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Florence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .682. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .528 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Florence pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sierra, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Florence will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Rocky Ford at 4:00 p.m. on March 25th. As for Sierra, they will head out to face off against Ellicott at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sierra has given up an average of 15.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
