2A District 6 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Newport was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 2A District 6. Earlier in the week, the Wildcats triumphed over Ludlow 47-8.
Newport Central Catholic took down Bishop Brossart 58-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Craig Pfefferman put up the best numbers through the air as the Mustangs lost to the Thoroughbreds. He finished with two completions for 18 yards. Pfefferman's favorite target this week was Jacob Dennis, who caught two passes for 17 yards.
Burt Pouncy was the best wideout in the league this week as Holy Cross fell to Lloyd Memorial. Pouncy tallied four receptions for 74 yards. Travis Gabbard helped Holy Cross' passing attack out by catching three balls for 70 yards.
Jalen Beal was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 33 carries, he ran for 227 yards as the Indians fell to the Juggernauts. Teammate Mitch Trail added to the ground attack by rushing for 71 yards.
Holy Cross' Trail and Pouncy have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A District 6 in both passing and receiving yards. Trail has thrown for 427 yards this season, while Pouncy, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 17 catches for 266 yards. Jacob Elbert from Bishop Brossart leads the league in rushing with 1093 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Lloyd Memorial takes on Matt Reinhart's team. As it stands, the Juggernauts are in first, while the Mustangs are in fourth.
Newport Central Catholic led the league in scoring this week after putting up 58 points on Bishop Brossart.
